Help with Nocturne
Most questions are answered below. If yours isn't, email jafdev@outlook.com and a real person will reply.
A page came out wrong
In the Page section of the sidebar, choose Dark to always convert that page or Original to keep it exactly as it is. Right-click a thumbnail for the same choices, or apply one to every page. Your choices carry into the export.
A drawing was turned dark
Nocturne keeps photos as they are, but flat drawings and diagrams are treated like the rest of the page. If one should stay as printed, set its page to Original.
Colours look too strong or too faint
Move the Colours slider. True to original keeps coloured text, charts and links at their printed brightness; Flipped like text makes them lighter, the way black text turns light.
Text is too bright or too dim
Use the Text brightness slider. Each theme also has its own text tone, so trying another theme can help too.
Password protected PDFs
Nocturne asks for the password when you open the file, and the dark copy is locked with that same password. Batch conversion and the Shortcuts action can't unlock files, so open locked ones in the Nocturne window instead.
Converting many files
Choose File → Convert Several PDFs, or drop several PDFs or a folder onto the window. Each dark copy is saved to the folder you pick with " (Dark)" added to its name, and existing files are never overwritten. Settings lets you change the name ending.
Saving only some pages
When exporting, pick Current page or type a range such as 1-3, 7 below the file name.
Converting from Finder or Shortcuts
Open the Shortcuts app and add the Make PDF Dark action. Turn the shortcut into a Quick Action and it appears when you right-click a PDF in Finder.
Reporting a problem with a PDF
Email jafdev@outlook.com with a description of what looks wrong. If the file isn't private, attaching it makes the fix much quicker.
